Headley:1877 Riots 9.17

Hi, my name is Jeelyan Martinez I'm in Professor Coopers Violence in America and Culture class. This week in class we discussed the wage cuts of 1877 from the book Headley of 1877 Riots. In the book the author says that communism is the most terrible thing that can happen to a country, but as he is describing it doesn't seem so bad, "1. The earth was made for men to enjoy equally, 2. All class distinctions wrong...". It doesn't seem wrong because isn't that the way that it should. Everyone treated equally.
Especially in that time when people where barely working & the ones that where barely got enough pay. In my opinion communism shouldn't have been looked at as something so terrible because times where so hard and people needed help which is something that communism was against. Some so it should've been a taken into context to help the people that where really struggling. Fast forward 50 years later,  Ebt & social security came out to help those who where struggling. Obviously the government saw that what they where doing wasn't working. One question from the reading about the author, where did the author really stand when in came to the riots of the working?
