Drunken: The Destruction of New York

"The great city lies trembling, panting, quivering in her wild, white heat of intoxication, excitement, madness- DRUNKEN and devilish pursuits of power, pleasure, and gold."

Hello, my name is Jeelyan I'm in Professor Cooper's Violence in America and Culture class in Lagcc. During class he asked us to get into pairs then he gave us each, a passage from the Novel "The Destruction of New York". In the passage that he assigned to us he told us to focus on a word, the word that we where to focus on was "drunken".
In the passage new york is described as drunken but as a drunken female. A female in that time was not supposed get drunk or act in any improper matter or unladylike. But New York was a drunken female, she intoxicated with greed and drunken power. New York wasn't being the lady that she was was supposed to be she was losing her appeal.
The passage that i feel that reflects this passage is
"She never rest. She never sleeps. She has not slept since the days of the birth and baptism. Even her people scarcely seem to sleep. The run forward day and night, night and ay until each one, until each one, in the impetuous rushing, come suddenly to the end of his road, and so falls headlong into his grave." I find that this passage reflects the other passage because it shows how New York intoxicated its people with its drunken excitement.

  1. Hello Jeelyan!
first thing i have to say is, i love your blog. secondly i like how you describe New York as a drunken female, and you describe what is an improper female to later saying how New York is an improper female. i like how you say that she was intoxicates with greed and "drunken" power. i believe you can elaborate more on that, it seems to me you have more to say and you should express all your ideas. i like how you use the quotes and when you using quotes you should elaborate more on them. i want you to express your thought on these quotes and what you think the author is trying to say, that will help a ,ot in your writing. now i see you focused on New York and New York being drunk in the Gotham passage, the two questions i want to ask you are :
-Can you connect/describe "drunken" on Cesar's Column?
    - Who if any may be "drunk" on Cesar's Column?
