1935 Harlem Riot

The 1935 Harlem Riot started because of the rumor that a child was killed after stealing a piece of candy. The child was beaten by the store clerks as if to say "that piece of candy belongs to us". All though its only a piece of candy its a message to all the people of harlem to not make the same mistake and end up like the young child. The riots began because of a rumor because the kid didn't die he was beaten not to say that him being beaten is any better but that riots where based out of a false accusation. I personally feel that the boy was just an excuse for the riot, and even if the boy wouldn't have been beaten then there would have still been a riot.
